Merry Christmas?!

1 Corinthians 10:30
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

We all know that the origins of Christmas is pagan, yet many of us are excited about it because we also link it to Christ. After all it is called, “Christmas.”

Here are the things we must consider before celebrating the holiday:

1. Tradition or truth – do we celebrate it because of tradition or to comemorate the birth of Christ? According to scholars, Jesus was borned in September because it is almost impossible to flock during December due to cold weather.

2. Gift or Gospel – are we waiting for the gifts, parties and bonuses or are we going to to use this occassion to share the gospel to our unsaved friends?

3. Santa or Jesus – one of the problems of Christmas is that children are told that Santa is real. He even replaced Jesus in the minds of children due to the gifts they receive even if they have been not nice. Therefore, when they grow up and discovered Santa is not real, they also think that Jesus is also a fictatious character. Furthermore, they also think that they will not be punished for their bad behavior in which they carry even to adulthood.

In conclusion, we cannot drop all the things which is not Christian, since birthdays, days of the week, and other things are named and inspired by pagan practices. Just do not forget that we are called to be the salt and light of the world not to be with the world. If Christ is the center of our life, it does not matter if we do or do not celebrate Christmas.
