You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.
We see Halloween is a fun way to loosen ourself and dress as fancy characters. But in reality, it is a demonic holiday to appease with unclean spirits.
Here are the 3 reasons why I think that we should not celebrate it:
1. Costume – so who loves to dress as witches, devils and erotic nuns? We think of it as harmlessly fun, but would you allow your kids and wife to dress that way and parade around your city? I don’t know about you but I won’t.
2. Trick or treat – it is only an ecouragement of bribery at an early age. It is a way to condition us that if someone gives what we want we will not do harm.
3. Occult practices – oija boards, tarot card readings, divination and witchcraft are prevalent on this day. At first it tickles our curiousity, but the moment we notice we are already involved in the occult.
Some would agree but many would say, “Bollocks! I’m still going.” If we are divided in this view, satan already succeeded on his plan to divide and conquer.
Still not convinced stiff necked people?!
Personal Testimony:
When I came to Japan I was so excited and all of that because it is one of my favorite countries. But a few days after when the thrill was all gone, I then slowly felt the sadness and heaviness of the air. After a few months that feeling gotten worse in a specific week. And to my surprise my teacher said that it is a week for the dead called Obon ( お盆 ) in which they are waiting for their deceased loved ones to come back and visit them. The same thing goes with Halloween.
It is very clear in the bible that the souls that sinneth dies. And here we are waiting for our dead loves ones to visit us on Halloween. Go read the curse of God when Saul consulted the witch of Endor.
If you participate in this festival, you already opened the portal entry of the devil in your life. To make things worse, you put 3 to 4 generational curse on your family.
Cut the curse now and stop celebrating the devil’s holiday!
Deuteronomy 30:19
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I used to be a conservative Christian (well, Mormon, so many Christians would say that’s not Christian but I worshipped Jesus and read the KJV Bible almost continuously, so close enough), so I understand where you are coming from. Still, I could not disagree more with the opinion you’ve expressed here, even if my disagreement stems from my holding a very different worldview at this point. I’m guessing we’ll probably end up needing to agree to disagree, but just to represent a different viewpoint, I will respond. Just for fun.
> But in reality, it is a demonic holiday to appease with unclean spirits.
There’s no good evidence that demonic or “unclean” spirits exist.
> 1. Costume – so who loves to dress as witches, devils and erotic nuns? We think of it as harmlessly fun, but would you allow your kids and wife to dress that way and parade around your city? I don’t know about you but I won’t.
My wife can dress however she likes, and I’m reticent to dictate to my children how they must dress although I am obligated to enforce certain standards of decency as a parent, so I would draw the line there. Beyond that it’s up to them.
> Trick or treat – it is only an ecouragement of bribery at an early age. It is a way to condition us that if someone gives what we want we will not do harm.
The phrase commonly used is “trick or treat”. The very nature of the word “trick” implies good natured fun and that’s how 100% of those “trick or treating” interpret it.
> Occult practices – oija boards, tarot card readings, divination and witchcraft are prevalent on this day. At first it tickles our curiousity, but the moment we notice we are already involved in the occult.
It’s all pretend and the vast majority of those who participate know this.
OTOH, the Bible is full of bizarre practices/events that make the occult seem tame. Consider Ezekial and all his hair cutting and burning. Or Hosea being commanded to marry a promiscuous woman to make a point. Or the competition to burn up sacrifices which was followed by Elijah seizing and then murdering all the Baal prophets. Or Jesus cursing the fig tree.
Also, we could easily do the same thing with Christian symbolism (I’m purposefully interpreting these symbols from an outsider perspective, like you are doing to the symbols sometimes associated with the occult):
The sacrament (aka Communion): Would you allow your children to eat food that is meant to represent a dying body? Would you allow your children to drink water/wine to represent a dying man’s blood? That’s grotesque.
Baptism: Would you allow your children to be submerged in water as a representation of DEATH and rebirth as an unquestioning follower of a mystic leader?
The Bible: would you allow your children to read a book filled with extreme violence and gore, ridiculous amounts of animal sacrifice, and a huge emphasis on human sacrifice and that implicitly condones slavery? That sounds terrible!
But when they are *your* symbols then they make sense and you interpret them in a positive light. That’s how it is for Halloween. These are symbols that are either fun or have some positive angle when you interpret them generously (like you do with your own symbols).

The same thing goes with Halloween.
So, you felt sad and lonely one week and that corresponded with Obon. Therefore, Halloween is bad? This argument seems very tenuous. Its common for people to feel sad and lonely in a foreign country, so the fact that such an occurence would fall over a Japanese holiday seems unsurprising.
> It is very clear in the bible that the souls that sinneth dies. And here we are waiting for our dead loves ones to visit us on Halloween.
How are those two things related? Also, I don’t know of anyone waiting for visits of their loved ones over Halloween.
> Go read the curse of God when Saul consulted the witch of Endor.
People back then were superstitious. That’s it. Virtually nobody believes that witches or anyone else can foretell the future today.
> If you participate in this festival, you already opened the portal entry of the devil in your life.
The devil is a relatively modern invention. There is no good evidence that such a being exists.
> To make things worse, you put 3 to 4 generational curse on your family.
Any evidence for such a claim?
> Cut the curse now and stop celebrating the devil’s holiday!
It’s a fun holiday to dress up and go around the neighborhood. Feel free to stay at home if you like.
> “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”
I have already chosen life and consistent with an honorable, good life is dressing up every once in a while and celebrating nonsensical holidays like Halloween.
Thanks for considering and all the best!

As long as you trust Jesus as your savior you will have eternal life. We have different beliefs and this is mine and you are entitled to yours. The devil is real and so the spirit world. Some people see it some don’t. Take it from those who know about it and be careful.

How about all of the Gospels? Jesus casting out demons? Paul, the disciples in the book of Acts? Did you know Paul’s epistles were partly motivated by a desire to keep out false teaching and to keep new Christians away from the ways of the occult — traditional Greek gods, spells, superstition and religion? New converts burned their books of magic – because they worked, according to Satan’s power!
And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. So the word of the Lord powerfully continued to spread and prevail.
Acts 19:10-20
I will be happy to share more resources if you want to learn more about this. But the Gospels and Acts themselves are sufficient to show that demonic spirits are real.
Yes, Paul also says that these demons are ‘nothing’, worthless things. This is where you are absolutely right in condemning superstition. We all live and die to the Lord, to live according to our conscience and faith, but I hope you see that there are indeed real evil spiritual entities or beings that are more than happy to be a part of your life and seduce you into letting them take over if you let them.
May the Spirit of truth guide us all, in Jesus’ name! Thanks for the detailed comment 🙂

As long as you participate the devil will find a portal to take a grip on that opportunity. Be very careful. The spirit world is real and does influence us.
